In a Blaze of Glory

On Friday, October 9, 2015, Glory World Series, the top kickboxing promotion in the world, will return to Denver for its second promotion in Colorado, and coaches Chris “Head Trauma” Tramell and Maureen “Baby Face” Riordon are ready for the big stage. Glory appeared in Denver last May for Glory 16, and it was there that Maureen made her debut on the promotion, resulting in Glory’s first female knockout. The upcoming fight card is significant not only because Denver is the first city in the United States that the promotion has ever returned to, but also because this time Maureen and Chris will appear on the card together.
Chris will be making his debut for the organization in a 187-pound match-up against Zack Wells. “I feel like I have been working my entire life for this moment,” he said, when asked what fighting for Glory means to him. “This is the culmination of my career…” And yet it almost seems like just the beginning for him, as only one short month after Glory he will make his debut with Legacy Fighting Championships, another elite promotion based in the United States. However, despite two back-to-back fights, Tramell explained he never looks past his current opponent. “I approach every fight as if it’s the toughest fight of my career,” he explained, and that has been evident in his training. Since learning of his debut with the world-class promotion, there has been an almost palpable energy about him.
For Maureen, this will not only be her second time fighting for the promotion, but the second time facing her opponent. In a 130-pound rematch against Shannon Sinn, Riordon seeks redemption after what ended up being the wrong end of a decision the last time she faced Sinn at Invicta Fighting Championships last April. “I know now what I did wrong, and I don’t intend to make the same mistake twice,” says Maureen. “Kickboxing is my arena; not hers. There’s no catching the kick. There’s no takedown. There’s no clinch. And there’s no resting against me on the cage because she’s tired. She has to stand and fight me this time.” This fight is particularly interesting for Maureen, as she also works for Glory and is the event manager for the promotion. “I’ve never put on an event and fought on it,” she laughed. “But there’s nothing I love more than a challenge.”
Tickets for the event are available at the front desk of ETC Boulder. General admission is $39 and floor seats are $54. The first fight is scheduled to start at 4:30, October 9th at the Magness Arena inside the Ritchie Center at Denver University. Come show your support for Coaches Chris and Maureen as they each take on one of the most important fights of their professional careers!
