Martial Arts for Kids in Castle Rock
Easton Castle Rock runs one kids program — Brazilian jiu jitsu — and it takes children from four through thirteen. It is a grappling martial art: kids learn to control a partner and get out of bad positions, with no punching or kicking. Parents arrive here for all sorts of reasons — a child who needs an outlet, a child who is being pushed around at school, a child who has tried three sports and stuck with none — and the room is built to take all of them. You do not need to know anything about martial arts to start, and neither does your child.
The person leading Castle Rock's kids program taught children for a living before he taught them jiu jitsu. Derek McCracken spent 23 years in Tae Kwon Do and worked as a special education teacher, and he came to jiu jitsu sideways — researching it so he could show his own students a few basics, then taking a class here and never going back. Mikey Hernandez coaches the Tigers with him.
Which Age Group Is My Child?
Kids train with kids their own age and stage. A coach places your child on their first day — you do not have to work it out in advance.

The Day You Walk In
Your child's first class is built to be fun. They'll warm up with a game, pair up with a partner and learn a real technique, and our team makes sure they feel at home from the moment they walk in.
The Rest of the Year
Training is the weekly part. This is everything around it — open to Easton families, none of it required.
