Martial Arts for Kids in Aurora

Easton Lowry runs one kids program — Brazilian jiu jitsu — and it takes children from four through thirteen. It is a grappling martial art: kids learn to control a partner and get out of bad positions, with no punching or kicking. Parents arrive here for all sorts of reasons — a child who needs an outlet, a child who is being pushed around at school, a child who has tried three sports and stuck with none — and the room is built to take all of them. You do not need to know anything about martial arts to start, and neither does your child.

Lowry's kids are taught by the same black belt who teaches its advanced adults. Antônio “Junior” Fidelis Jr. has been coaching jiu jitsu since 1998, a 4th-degree black belt under Amal Easton, and several of the children he taught early on are still at Easton today — some of them now teaching. Joey Willett coaches the Tigers with him.

Age Groups

Which Age Group Is My Child?

Kids train with kids their own age and stage. A coach places your child on their first day — you do not have to work it out in advance.

Ages 4–6

Little Tigers

Where a four-year-old starts. Foundational movement, coordination, and a class shaped around a short attention span — structure they can actually hold, and enough play that they want to come back. This band is Jiu Jitsu; striking starts at seven.

Ages 7–13

Tigers

Real technique and real progression. Older kids drill position, work with a partner, and move up as they earn it — at their own pace, with a coach who knows the difference between pushing a child and losing one.

Your First Class

The Day You Walk In

The three things parents actually ask at Easton Lowry before they book.

01

What drop-off actually looks like

Come a few minutes early. Somebody has your child's name before you arrive — a coach meets them at the edge of the mat, walks them on, and introduces them to the students they will be working with. A loaner Gi is already at the desk, so there is nothing to buy first.

02

Can I stay and watch?

Yes, and on a first day we would rather you did. You are welcome at the edge of the mat for the whole class. You are also not expected to stay — plenty of parents drop off, and plenty stay every week for years.

03

What if my child is shy?

Most first-timers are. The opening minutes go on your child rather than on the curriculum, and they are paired with a student who already knows that looking after your partner is the job. Nobody spars on day one, and nobody is made to do anything they are not ready for.

My 4-year-old son takes classes here, and the experience has been exceptional. The instructors are outstanding—they have an incredible ability to connect with kids and maintain their focus, which is no small feat with this age group! The program is top-quality, balancing fun and discipline while teaching valuable skills. My son absolutely loves it and always asks to come back.
