Why study Muay Thai
Like any martial art rooted in technique and control, Muay Thai will arm your child not only with the skills to defend themselves through punches and kicks, but also a discernment for when to use them.Â
At Easton Training Center, we focus on F.R.E.D. in our kids program – focus, respect, energy, and discipline – and make sure to touch on at least one of these aspects in our daily class Mat Chat. We teach these principles in alignment with our curriculum so that children grow their mental understanding of what it means to be a martial artist alongside learning the technical aspects of the sport.
Knowing how to direct their energy appropriately and defend themselves on their feet will not only help your child navigate the emotional waters of youth – it will help establish a foundation of trust within themselves to do the right thing, like how to act in a bullying situation or knowing when to get an adult involved.
What will my child's first class look like?
You just signed your kid up for a free class! One of our First Impressions Specialists will reach out to ask the name of your child and schedule their first class. They’ll reach out the day before to confirm and send you a digital waiver.
On the very first day of class, you’ll arrive a little early. Martial arts can feel intimidating to a first-time child, so we want to make sure to work in some extra time to get to know them and make them feel comfortable. We’ll give them boxing gloves and shin guards to use and introduce them to their coaches.Â
Class starts with a focused warmup including calisthenics, dynamic stretching, focused group shadowboxing, and learning to count in Thai!Â
Kids in our Muay Thai program will practice drilling the fundamental techniques of Muay Thai on heavy bags, Thai Pad/Focus Mitts, and learn to train safely and effectively with teammates in live drills.Â
For their safety and protection, they’ll be required to come prepared to class with appropriate Muay Thai/Boxing gloves, shin pads, and Thai shorts(can be purchased at Easton). In any live drilling setting, we also provide protective body shields for kids to stay safe and grow their confidence!Â
