The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. “Shavees” collect donations in their communities, and around St. Patrick’s Day, at events across the country, they shave their heads in solidarity with children who are fighting cancer.
This year, four members of the Easton community participated in the annual St. Baldrick’s fundraising event. Coach Peter Straub and Little Tiger Leland Majava of ETC Denver raised a total of $1235, and on March 11th, they headed to Fado Irish Pub in Denver to make good on their promise to shave their heads. For Peter, this was his eighth consecutive year as a Shavee. Centennial Tigers students Alex Radin and Tommy Johntson raised a total of $1460, and shaved their heads at Snooze in Lone Tree on March 17th.
Nationwide, 556,553 participants raised a total of $21,705,861 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in 2016. At the Fado location alone, 623 Shavees raised a total of $447,652. The Snooze event saw a total of 14 participants, raising $12,089.
