Fundamentals – Double-Leg and Triangle Choke
- Double-Leg Takedown – Old faithful! Takes years and years, and thousands of reps to get good at these takedowns, so lets get back to it! The double leg takedown (colloquially simply known as a double leg or even double) involves grabbing the opponent with both arms around the opponent’s legs while keeping the chest close to the opponent, and using this position to force the opponent to the ground.
- Triangle – A triangle choke is a type of figure-four chokehold which strangles the opponent by encircling the opponent’s neck and one arm with the legs in a configuration similar to the shape of a triangle. The technique is a type of lateral vascular restraint that constricts the blood flow from the carotid arteries to the brain.
Intermediate – Renzo Hip Throw and Knee on Belly
- Renzo Hip Throw – This week we will be looking at a hip throw variation that is extremely effective. The grips are different, and the way we get them to move into the throw are not the same as the traditional hip throw, but it is VERY effective nonetheless.
- Knee On Stomach – Movement and Attacks – This position can be so effective for mobility and control, that some upper belts prefer it to traditional side control. Those with a good understanding of this position can really make you suffer, while using minimal energy themselves. If you’ve ever rolled with Professor Mike Tousignant…you know what I’m talking about!
Kickboxing – Elbows
This week in kickboxing, we will go over the short-range weapon in the elbow. The elbow can be used to “cut” or “speer” the opponent, depending on how you throw it. We will look at proper elbow technique and then how to properly set our elbows up and cover distance from punch range to elbow range.
Muay Thai – Leg Kicks – Technique, Set-ups, and Tricks
This week, we will look at leg kick offense, set ups, and follow ups. Learning how to attack the opponent’s legs is a valuable tool that can slow the opponent down, take steam off their strikes, and set us up for a ton of nice follow ups. A hard leg kick is a staple of every good Thai Boxer’s arsenal, and on the other side, building up your legs to take leg kicks is key as well.

Thoughts
The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. – Rocky Balboa
