On Saturday April 29th, Easton Training Center Denver hosted the other academies for the annual BJJ In-House Tournament. Once a year, Easton BJJ students and instructors from throughout the Front Range gather to compete in friendly match-ups. For the last two years, we held the event in the Denver academy. It is one of our largest schools, and is central for our many students. This year we had nearly 200 entries, with divisions for pre-schoolers, Masters, and everyone in between! For many who took to the mats that day, it was their first time competing, and it’s always a pleasure to watch these newly minted competitors push through their nerves and test their skills.
Benefits of the In-House Tournament
As a large family of academies (eight, including affiliates), we have the unique opportunity to hold an event like this one, where students can participate in a competition on a smaller scale than the other local tournaments. For newly minted BJJ practitioners, this is the best environment to get a taste for competing. The Easton In-House always has an air of camaraderie as the whole community comes together for a day. We can enjoy the company of old friends, make some new ones, and work hard to make one another better.
Throughout the day, we saw some truly impressive performances. With a small pool of competitors, some took on divisions slightly different from their own age or weight class. This included some teens who competed in adult brackets. With hundreds of people present, the sportsmanship was unparalleled. Great work, everyone!
