The Kids Comp Program crushed its first three seasons with Genesis, Odyssey and Ragnarök, and we can’t wait to see what the new year brings as we kick off 2025 with Season 4: Enter the Dragon!
The “dragon” often represents the obstacle we face in life — fear, doubt, or a skilled opponent that must be confronted. This season’s patch, Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, originates from the rich mythology of the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Toltecs and the Maya (where he is known as Kukulkan).
Quetzalcoatl symbolizes the eternal pursuit of learning and wisdom, embodying the transformative power of knowledge. Like dragons across many cultures, he represents the archetypal journey of facing challenges to grow stronger and wiser.
In martial arts and Jiu Jitsu, competitions mirror this journey of confronting the dragon. Through these physical and mental trials, practitioners refine their skills, deepen their understanding, and become more self-aware.
Quetzalcoatl’s mythology reminds us that growth requires effort and courage and that true wisdom is earned by embracing challenges rather than avoiding them.
Mark your calendars for these three competition events!

Where should you put your patches?
We recommend affixing the “Kids BJJ Competition Team” patch on the shoulder of your child’s Gi. We recommend placing the seasonal patches along the lapel of your child’s gi. Wherever you choose to put them, please refer to the IBJJF’s guidelines on legal patch placement before doing so.
We are incredibly excited for this year and hope you are, too! Get ready for a season of fun, challenge, and growth! Click here to stay in touch and sign up for all Kids Comp Program communications including upcoming events, deadlines, seasonal information and more!
