BJJ

Fundamentals – Double Leg and Closed Guard Offense

  • Basic Double-Leg – Time for some more double-leg repetitions. Repetition is the mother of all skill! If you’re new to this takedown, pay attention to the details and start to learn one of the most important takedowns. If this is review, then get those reps in! 1,000 reps before you start to master is…so keep it up!
  • Closed Guard (Attack and Sweep) – Now we are going to switch gears a bit and work from our backs. We will be looking at Front Choke and Scissor Sweeps in this week’s class. Even against a skilled attacker you can win if you’re the one with the most experience in the position. That means get in and spend some time on your back, working from your guard! Even if it isn’t your go to…you may need it one day!

Intermediate – Renzo Hip Throw and Maintaining Mount

  • Renzo Hip Throw – This hip throw takes advantage of your opponent’s forward momentum and utilizes it to throw them. The hip throw and variations of it are extremely important, so be sure and make it in this week.
  • Maintaining Mount – Time to hold your opponent down in one of the best positions there is. The mount can be the end of the line for the other person if you know what you’re doing. That’s why you have to come in to learn what details you need to know in order to keep them down, and or submit them! Don’t forget our order of events…Position, Control, Submission!

Kickboxing – Reloads and Weight Distribution

One of the most fundamental principles of fighting is learning how to effectively use your weight to generate power in your strikes. This week, we will focus on transferring our weight properly between our lead leg and our rear leg while throwing strikes. We will also look at a technique called “reloading,” which allows us to throw the same-side strike two times in a row, with power. Once we learn to shift our weight properly, we will look at “posting” and “framing,” which are techniques used to control the opponent and create rhythm breaks in our attack patterns. These prove to be very useful and cause confusion to the opponent! Weight shifting will play a key role in your striking development, so pay attention this week and get some good repetitions in!

Muay Thai – Clinch and Inside Work

This week in Muay Thai, we look at the most important, but often most under-developed of American Muay Thai arsenal’s: the clinch. Basic clinch positioning, posture, entries, attacks, and sweeps will be the focus this week. Also basic defense and escapes. Most people start out despising the clinch, because it is very helpless position if you are new to it. However, once you learn even the basics, you have a huge advantage over everyone else! Come get your reps in this week and develop strong clinch fundamentals!
