BJJ

Fundamentals

  • Standing Guillotine Defense and Offense – The guillotine choke is a dangerous submission that can be employed from a variety of positions in BJJ. This week we will begin class by showing how to both attack and defend the guillotine from standing.
  • Position – Closed Guard Bottom. Fan Sweep Guillotine Combo – When on the bottom of the closed guard, begin by breaking the posture of your opponent. When they regain posture, sit up with them up for a fan sweep. If your opponent drives into you as you try to sweep, attack the guillotine.

Intermediate

  • Drills: Push/pull stance drill, russian drill, arm drag drill, post drill, and De la Riva to anaconda guard to 1 leg X-guard sweep
  • Takedown: Side clinch trip backwards
  • Ground: Passing the Closed Guard

Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session. This week focus on setting up the russian tie, the push/pull wrestling stance drill, the arm drag drill, post drill to the side clinch and tripping our opponent backwards, and transitioning from DLR to anaconda guard to 1 leg X-guard. On the ground, we are studying passing the closed guard. We will stand in the closed guard controlling the sleeve, break the guard, and pass by forcing half guard and hugging the head of their opponent. Finish class with positional training from closed guard.

Kickboxing – Elbows

This week in kickboxing, we will go over the short-range weapon in the elbow. The elbow can be used to “cut” or “spear” the opponent, depending on how you throw it. We will look at proper elbow technique and then how to properly set our elbows up and cover distance from punch range to elbow range.

Muay Thai – Intro to Clinch

This week we will focus on “Zone 1” attacks and clinch work. As we all know, clinch and grappling on the inside is an entirely separate game from punching and kicking at longer range. We will go over the fundamentals of clinch and positioning, as well as the basic offense, defense, and throws from the clinch. Don’t forget to take off your jewelry and take our your piercings before class this week. Also, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to bring a towel to dry off or a spare ranked shirt with you to class!

Kids – Safe Touch/ Unsafe Touch – No Secrets Who is the boss of your body? You! And no one has the right to touch you in a way that makes you feel funny or uncomfortable.

What is a safe touch VS. What is an unsafe touch?

Thoughts – On the Importance of Taking Action

“Take action. Every story you’ve ever been connected with, every leader you have ever admired, every puny little thing that you have ever accomplished is the result of taking action. You have a choice: you can either be a passive victim of circumstance, or the active hero of your own life.” – Bradley Whitford
