CMTA 2017 Muay Thai Tournament

CMTA 2017 Muay Thai Tournament

By Sean Madden

Every year, the Colorado Muay Thai Association (CMTA), hosts the prestigious  Muay Thai State Championships at the National Western Complex in Denver. This is an occasion for gyms across the state to come together and test their skills, while representing the art of Muay Thai. Easton Training Center Denver/Boulder won this event in 2015 and was runner up last year! This year, we have an extremely dedicated and determined group of students ready to go out and take the team trophy again!

Preparing to step into the ring requires additional and often grueling training, above and beyond the normal classes offered on the schedule. Students who sign up for this event have met the minimum requirements for training time and proficiency, and have also competed in our Easton in-house smokers, which prepare our students for these very competitions.

The coaches prepared a 7-week training camp schedule, which included running, drilling, sparring, private sessions with coaches, and dieting to make specific weight classes. The roadwork is up to 15 miles per week of running and sprints, on top of the required Muay Thai training! The students have also been lucky to train with the Easton Fight Team during this training camp in order to get a glimpse of what it takes to compete at the next level.

As we wind down on the training and April 9th approaches, I have to say I’m very proud of all the hard work, sacrifice, discipline, and dedication these students have shown so far in training. As the old saying goes, “The fight is won or lost long before you step foot in the ring.” All of our students have put in work beyond what we have required of them, and I’m confident it will show in the ring on April 9th! Look out for Easton to become the 2017 Colorado State Muay Thai Championship team!
