Kickboxing – Angles of Attack

The goal of combat sports is to hit and not get hit! This week, we will focus on different ways of “stepping off the line” to avoid getting hit after we hit our opponents. A good rule of thumb is to step to the side you finish on. So, if you finish with your lead hand, step to your lead side. If you finish with your rear hand, exit to your rear side. This week, we drill the pivot step to the lead side and the slide step to our rear side. Get off the tracks!

Muay Thai – Clinch Work

This week we will focus on “Zone 1” attacks and clinch work. As we all know, clinch and grappling on the inside is an entirely separate game from punching and kicking at longer range. We will go over the fundamentals of clinch and positioning, as well as the basic offense, defense, and throws from the clinch. Don’t forget to take off your jewelry and take our your piercings before class this week. Also, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to bring a towel to dry off or a spare ranked shirt with you to class!

Kids – Three T’s – Tackle

This week we are continuing to talk about the Three T’s of dealing with bullies. The third T stands for Tackle, which only comes into play if we have exhausted all other options. We will discuss when it is appropriate to use our martial arts training to defend ourselves.

  • Standing – Snap Down
  • Ground – Switching Sides from the Back

Tigers – Advanced

  • Standing – Grip Strip Double-Leg
  • Ground – Head and Pummel control and use other foot from the top of half guard

Thoughts – Cleanliness

It is very important to make sure that we are all taking our cleanliness seriously. Make sure you are showering after training and washing and cleaning your equipment: gis, boxing gloves, shin pads etc. Not only is personal hygiene important for our health and the health of those around us, but it is also a matter of being considerate. Do not be the person that no one wants to train with.
