Fight to Win Tournament of Champions 20

On Saturday February 11th, Fight to Win’s Tournament of Champions took over the National Western Complex arena in Denver for a full day of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu matches. With hundreds of competitors ranging from young children to seasoned black belts, these tournaments are a tour de force, and a great way for Colorado’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community to come together and put their training to the test.
For Easton BJJ students, these local tournaments are the best place to get their feet wet and get a taste of competition. This experience is a manifold challenge, but one that can bring immense personal growth in addition to an improved Jiu Jitsu game.
Professor Eliot Marshall posted his reflections to Facebook:
“Competition is very hard and can invoke feelings that we aren’t used to. It applies pressure to the individual and I believe that’s good for the soul. Remember the results of your matches are in the past. All that matters now is what you do with that information that you gained. If you lost fix your mistakes. Winning can actually be much harder. We like to hold onto that as long as possible. You need to bury it way down. Train like you lost and only bring back that memory of winning when it’s competition time again so you can use it for confidence.”
When all was said and done, ETC Centennial took home the team trophy, with all six other Easton academies placing in the top ten. Congratulations to all who competed!
