April Arvada Newsletter

Can you believe we’ve just crossed over into the last two-thirds of 2018? We hardly can! We can’t share enough how amazing everyone’s energy and consistency was for the month of April, again setting new weekly and class attendance records. Way to go Easton Arvada family! We had a number of competitions, seminars, events and a few in-house updates to share as we roll into the Spring season. We’ve also added a new ‘Member Resources’ section to our monthly newsletter, so if you’ve stumbled upon any great content that you feel would be helpful to our coaches or students, let us know and we will try to get them in there! Without further ado, let’s get into what happened in April and what we’ve got coming up!

IBJJF: Denver Open on April 21st

The first ever IBJJF: Denver Open took place on Saturday, April 21st. As many of our students know, things had been absolutely heating up on the Jiu-Jitsu mats as our students and coaches had been gearing up for this giant competition. Between our Monday night competition classes and the high number of consistent bodies in our BJJ classes, we were more than ready to send in a batch of amazing competitors to represent the Easton Academies.

Between all Easton academies, we sent in students across nearly every age and rank bracket from White belt to Masters Black Belt, and the weekend went brilliantly. After all was said and done, Easton BJJ came away with not one, but TWO team titles in both the Gi and No-Gi divisions!

We are extremely proud of all competitors, win lose or draw and look forward to the IBJJF bringing another amazing tournament to our backyard. A huge congratulations to everyone that competed!

Muay Thai State Tournament on April 15th

On Sunday, April 15th the 8th annual Colorado Muay Thai Association State Tournament took place at the National Western Complex in Denver. We had another strong showing from all Easton Academies, and sent in one of our own ETC-Arvada students, Tien Nguyen, to represent our burgeoning Muay Thai program. Moving up another weight class (yet again!), Tien gave up about 15 lbs. and a fair bit of experience to a tough opponent for this year’s Advanced 130 lbs. Men’s State Championship.

After a highly spirited back-and-forth contest that went all three rounds and left the crowd wondering who would come out on top, Tien came home with a silver medal for his efforts. We are extremely proud of both Tien and our striking program as a whole, and look forward to even more competitions throughout the rest of the year. Congrats Tien!

Nathan Corbett Muay Thai Seminar on April 21st

On Saturday, April 21st, Easton Training Center Denver was thrilled to host 11x Muay Thai World Champion, Nathan Corbett, who is renowned for his unique elbow system within the Muay Thai community. The seminar was a 3-hour block, with the first half consisting of elbow work, clinch, and infighting strategies. The second half gave us great insight into his Champion mindset and mentality that made him so successful in the sport of Muay Thai, making for a truly unique seminar experience.

Thanks to our Easton Muay Thai community and to all those that attended and made for another great seminar. Be on the lookout for more seminars on the horizon this Summer

Coming Up: Karl Pravec Seminar on May 3rd

BJJ students, ETC-Denver will be hosting a seminar with Renzo Gracie black belt Karl ‘The Silver Fox’ Pravec on Thursday, May 3rd from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The cost is $75 and tickets can be purchased on the Facebook event page here.

New Lost & Found Setup

Don’t forget that the Lost and Found has been moved from near the front door to the changing rooms. We’ll be making a run to Goodwill once a month, so if you think you may have left something at the academy, check the lost and found sooner rather than later. All lost valuables are kept in a fishbowl at the front desk and will never be taken for donation, so if it was something more than gloves, water bottles, gear etc. be sure to stop by the front desk.

Member Resources:

We’ve added a new feature to our monthly newsletter containing a space to share a few resources to help our students stay sharp and pick up a few tips outside of our academy as well. We’ll be sure to include a few every month, so check out the following links and keep coming back for more!
