Fundamentals – Fan Sweep, Guillotine, and Kimura
- Standing Guillotine Offense and Defense – The guillotine choke is a dangerous submission that can be employed from a variety of positions in BJJ. This week we will begin class by showing how to both attack and defend the guillotine from standing.
- Fan Sweep, Guillotine, Kimura – When on the bottom of the closed guard, begin by breaking the posture of your opponent. When they regain posture, sit up with them up for a fan sweep. If your opponent drives into you as you try to sweep, attack the guillotine. If they leave their arm exposed, attack the kimura.
Intermediate – Drills, Guard Pull, Attacking the Mount
- Guard Pull and Drills – Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session. Guard pull to anaconda guard sweep, smash pass to mount, knee slide to side control, side control to mount. Please watch the video below for a detailed look at these drills.
- Mount Attacks – On the ground, we are studying how to attack the mount using the a variety of chokes and armbars.
Kickboxing – Boxing and Body Punching
This week in kickboxing, we look at the art of attacking the body. Learning how to properly punch your opponent’s midsection can add a new level to your offense! We will work on level changes, setting up the body shots, and proper follow ups after we land a devastating body punch.
Muay Thai – Zone 1 Weapons: Elbows and Knees
This week we will begin a two-week dive into Zone 1 (inside zone). We will begin this week by looking at transitions from Zone 3 and Zone 2 into Zone 1. We will also explore Zone 1 weapons, such as elbows, knees, and and introduce basic hand positions into the clinch. Let’s sharpen up our elbows and knees this week!
