Fundamentals – Osoto Gari and Escaping Mount

  • Osoto Gari – O-soto-gari is one of the most basic throws in judo. It is important to remember that the throw had its genesis in combat and self-defense related systems. In judo, which derived out of earlier self-defense oriented jujutsu systems, the throw evolved into a technique set up by off-balancing and body control. (1) The focus is on the setting up and execution of the throw itself
  • Mount Escape – Buck and Roll – This is one part of a couple of the basic escapes that you should begin to incorporate into your Jiu-Jitsu as early as possible. This move works even at the highest levels if your timing and understanding of leverage are good. May as well start doing it today…

Intermediate – Tai Otoshi and Side Control Attacks

  • LBC to Turning Tai Otoshi – We always stress not letting your opponent get double underhooks on you, and this is a huge reason why. When we get the under hooks, we are able to utilize them to force the opponent to the ground and or throw them. We will break down all of the details for chaining these two attacks together.
  • Triple Attack from Side Control – Now that we know how to hold our opponent down, we can begin to attack! We will teach you how to chain these three attacks together, along with good pressure, to secure the submission.

Kickboxing – Round Kicks

This week in Kickboxing, we focus on the most important and strongest strike in our arsenal: the round kick. This kick is widely regarded in combat sports as one of the most powerful and devastating strikes due to the sheer force and speed with which they can be thrown. Mechanics to develop a strong round kick are essential. We will focus on using our entire body and swinging our shin like a baseball bat in order to generate maximum force. The rear round kick, the lead leg switch kick, and learning how to throw these kicks for speed and balance will be the focus!

Muay Thai – Clinch and Inside Work

This week in Muay Thai, we look at the most important, but often most under-developed of American Muay Thai arsenal’s: the clinch. Basic clinch positioning, posture, entries, attacks, and sweeps will be the focus this week. Also basic defense and escapes. Most people start out despising the clinch, because it is very helpless position if you are new to it. However, once you learn even the basics, you have a huge advantage over everyone else! Come get your reps in this week and develop strong clinch fundamentals!

Thoughts

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
