- Osoto Gari – This week we will focus on the classical right-handed osotogari, where tori steps next to uke with his left leg and reaps uke’s right leg (at the back of the thigh) with his right leg.
- Mount Escape – Buck and Roll – Understanding how to effectively escape from the bottom of the mount is paramount in BJJ. This week we will focus on the buck and roll escape, and show how to combine the knee to elbow escape with the buck and roll.
- Drills: Rafa Steps to leg drag
- Takedown: Front headlock/sprawls
- Ground: Taking/attack back or Marshall Plan(no gi)
Kickboxing – Knees
This week in Kickboxing, we focus on a dangerous mid-range and short-range weapon: the knee. We will look at the mechanics and usage of the straight knee and the angled knee, as well as the skip knee and the barn door knee from the inside position in the “clinch.”
Muay Thai – Round Kick Defense and Counters
Last week, round kick offense. This week, round kick defense. Now we learn how to defend against a strong kicker. There are a number of ways to defend and counter a round kick, depending on the scenario. We will look at blocking, checking, catching, evading, and intercepting. All of these are important, so come get your reps in!
- Warm Up – Front rolls, back rolls, hipping out, and break fall
- Standing – Jab, cross, and elbow
- BJJ – Tackle the Giant, Duck and Tackle, Clap and Tackle, review Bulldozer and Spider Kid
- Game – Infection
- Explanation – For the striking portion of the class, we will focus on basic jabs, crosses, and elbows in a correct Muay Thai stance. On the ground, we will warm up with a game of Infection, and then teach Tackle the Giant. In order to be successful with this move, students must understand the fundamentals of a wrestling stance, how to shoot while still keeping their head up, and to grab the giant around the knees.

Tigers – Advanced
- Standing – Single-Leg Takedown
The single leg is a fundamental takedown in BJJ, and a movement that every practitioner should understand. From a proper wrestling stance, we will focus on changing our level and shooting on our opponent’s lead leg.
- Ground – Back Attack
In order to effectively attack from the back, one must first learn to maintain the position. This week we will focus on the maintaining the back, review attacking the collar choke and focus on the armbar.
Thoughts – Positive Self-Talk
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are probably right.”
Our self-image, and how we appear to others, is largely predicated on how we speak and think about ourselves. If all we do is talk about how we “can’t do things” or how we “aren’t good at things,” then we will never be able to do things, or do them well because of our own self-imposed limitations. When you impose limitations on yourself, and you identify with failure, then you will welcome failure. Conversely, if you identify with power and success, you will welcome success. Basically, how we speak of ourselves and the language we use, becomes our self-fulfilling prophecy.
