BJJ

Fundamentals – Foot Sweep and Mount Escape

  • Foot Sweep – The foot sweep; one of the most basic, versatile, and flat-out cool takedowns in all of grappling. They are an incredibly valuable tool for any grappler, as they blend seamlessly into almost any game and can deliver maximum results from relatively low risk and effort. There are various angles and set ups for foot sweeps (Seth has a good one on Youtube) that you can use to be successful. You can even hit one off of a failed Osoto Gari from last week. Whatever BASIC sweep you look at this week…make sure there are plenty of reps on the set up!
  • Mount Escape – Knee to Elbow – Escaping the mount can be super frustrating…even knowing the buck and roll escape if your timing isn’t perfect, or the person on top has a strong base. Learning this side of the coin makes things better. Trust me!

Intermediate – Low Back Clench and Side Control

  • LBC to Turning Tai Otoshi – We always stress not letting your opponent get double underhooks on you, and this is a huge reason why. When we get the under hooks, we are able to utilize them to force the opponent to the ground and or throw them. We will break down all of the details for chaining these two attacks together.
  • Triple Attack from Side Control – Now that we know how to hold our opponent down, we can begin to attack! We will teach you how to chain these three attacks together, along with good pressure, to secure the submission.

Kickboxing – Knees

The knee in kickboxing is a very versatile and dangerous weapon. It can be thrown from mid-range as well as short-range, and can be thrown at a variety of targets. This week, we will examine the mechanics of a proper knee and how to hide our knees with other strikes in order to increase our chances of landing a fight ending knee!

Muay Thai – Teep and Push Kick Offense

This week in Muay Thai, we look at the offensive capabilities of the foot jab, or “teep.” We will look at mechanics, kick placement, kick set ups, and different follow ups as well. A fighter with a strong teep controls the distance of the fight!

Announcements

  • Fight To Win Pro is coming back to Denver in July…be sure and get tickets when they become available to support your favorite ETC athlete! The tables sold out in a flash last time, so if you’d like to be front and center…you better be ready!

Thoughts

An athlete that tells you that the training is always easy and always fun, hasn’t been there. Goals can be elusive, which makes the difficult journey all the more worth it.
