Fundamentals – Double Leg and Closed Guard Offense

  • Basic Double-Leg – We will look at one of the best takedowns there is again this week. The double-leg is a great way to get the fight to the ground with authority! It will certainly put you in the dominant spot on top if you do it correctly! This takedown is heavy in the rotation, because it should be a staple in your takedown game. If you aren’t hitting this in live training, you need practice! Repetition is the mother of all skill…so lets work on this double until we can do it in our sleep. This takedown is amazing for self-defense as well as competition, so don’t miss another opportunity to sharpen this sword!
  • Bottom of Closed Guard – For this position, we will be looking at a couple of attacks this week. One submission, and one sweep. In general we try and follow the 3 S’s when on the bottom. Submit, Sweep, Standup. If you can do one of these things when on the bottom, you should be in much better shape then if you can’t! Don’t miss this class…you’ll regret it if you do!

Intermediate – Shot Defense and Side Control

  • Shot Defense – There are many “basic” takedowns that people will attempt. It is important to understand how to shut down these attempts. There are techniques that take the move and stop it completely, giving us the opportunity to start our own attack. There are also some that reverse the situation, putting the attacker on the defense pretty quickly. Come in and learn some of your instructor’s favorite takedown defenses and counters!
  • Maintaining Side Control to advance Mount – We will cover how to maintain this position, as well as how to go from here to the mount, while keeping your opponent stuck on the bottom. If you don’t learn how to do this correctly, you may rush, allowing your opponent some space to escape. Come in and let us show you how to maintain and advance.

Kickboxing – Leg Kicks

This week in KB 1, we look at attacking the legs of our opponent, using the outside low kick and the inside low kick. These two kicks are designed to attack the lead leg of our opponent and cause damage, which in turn with slow our opponent down, and opens up another level of our offense (head, body, legs). We will also look at the basic defense for low kicks, by “checking,” and how to counter and return properly.

Muay Thai – Body Punching and Combinations

This week in Muay Thai, we look at the art of body punching. We will look at setting up straight shots to the center line of our opponent, to open up the head for attack, and we will also look at attacking the liver with the hook. A well placed and hidden body shot can easily end a fight, so let’s work on setting these shots up to increase our chance of landing them and hurting the opponent.


  • It’s that time of year where it can be easy to fall off a bit with your consistency! Don’t let that be you! Stay committed to your fitness and martial arts goals regardless of the season and you’ll be much happier than if you allow them to fall by the wayside. Consistency is key…no matter what discipline or sport you’re doing. Be consistent, be deliberate, and SMASH goals!


So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
