- Pummel to Low Back Clinch – Controlling the clinch is controlling the match. This is where we can learn to control and take our partner to the mat.
- Side Control Bottom – Frame and Pummel Escapes – Learning how to frame and pummel on bottom of side control is massively important. Keeping the elbows in tight and avoiding the head wrap will help you avoid getting submitted and having the partner on top advance. Keep in mind that next week we will add in escapes from headlocks on the ground. These movements all tie in together.
- Drills: Push/pull stance drill, russian drill, arm drag drill, post drill, De la Riva to anaconda guard sweep, and smash pass to mount from the De la Riva
- Takedown: Push/pull stance drill, russian drill, arm drag drill, post drill, De la Riva to anaconda guard sweep, and smash pass to mount from the De la Riva
- Ground: Attacking from the butterfly guard
Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session. This week focus on setting up the russian tie, the push/pull wrestling stance drill, the arm drag drill, the hip throw, transitioning from DLR to anaconda guard, and passing the DLR with the smash pass to the mount. Please watch the video below for a detailed look at these drills. On the ground, we are studying how to attack from the butterfly guard using the hook sweep and the “take out the trash” sweep.
Kickboxing – Boxing and Body Punching
This week in kickboxing, we look at the art of attacking the body. Learning how to properly punch your opponent’s midsection can add a new level to your offense! We will work on level changes, setting up the body shots, and proper follow ups after we land a devastating body punch.
Muay Thai – Round Kick Offense
We will continue our study of Zone 3 fighting this week, but now we will focus on round kick offense and strategy! The round kick is the staple of Muay Thai; we will look at some variations of the round kick as well as how and when to throw it in order to ensure success!
It is very important to make sure that we are all taking our cleanliness seriously. Make sure you are showering after training and washing and cleaning your equipment: gis, boxing gloves, shin pads etc. Not only is personal hygiene important for our health and the health of those around us, but it is also a matter of being considerate. Do not be the person that no one wants to train with.
