Kickboxing – Boxing Week
This week in Kickboxing, we will be focusing on our punching! Looking at concepts such as hitting the body, speed vs power, and establishing a strong jab. Boxing opens up the rest of our weapons in Kickboxing, so we use it all the time!
Muay Thai – Low Kick Defense and Counters
Last week our focus was low kick offense and strategy, so this week we flip the script and look at our common types of defense and how they apply to the low kick! Not all of our common defenses work well against the low kick, so we will focus on the core defenses (check/block, evade, intercept) and our best counter opportunities against a heavy-low kicker as well.
Kids – ABCs of Conflict- Communicate with Confidence
“Conflict is a type of problem, and I do have to deal with some problems, but the ABCs of Conflict will give me some rules to follow to make sure I can always handle the problems I find myself in.” “This week is ‘C’! What does the ‘C’ stand for??”—(Communicate with Confidence) “Good! Especially when I find myself in conflict with another person, I need to be able to communicate with confidence.” “Communicate means…?”—(Talking) “And Confidence is…?”—(Bravery, belief in yourself) “So communicate with confidence just means I can talk in a serious, brave way when I need to” “Do I have to be loud and obnoxious everywhere I go?”—(No) “Most of the time, Id, rather be calm and quiet, but I understand that there will probably come a time when I need to stand up for myself, and so I PRACTICE my confident communication.” “A real serious voice is like a secret weapon, but it’s one you have to earn. It’s a power you have to practice. When people first start trying to be serious, they usually get emotional instead. But that’s only because they WEREN’T CONFIDENT ENOUGH. Luck for them confidence is something we can build up a TON if we try.” “What’s one thing we all do to get braver?”—(TRAIN) “Exactly! If i’m sure that most people would NOT be able to physically hurt me, I can bring that confidence into my speech. If there’s no physical danger I have one less thing to be afraid of.” “We also practice our serious voice, too. When we yell as a team, it’s not just so that we sound good. We are practicing sounding serious and being heard. Sometimes the bully just has to hear you enough to take you seriously.” “Be ready to stand up for yourself! If you are dealing with some conflict with other people, know how to communicate clearly, confidently, and seriously, and you will be heard.” “Everybody say nice and loud: Communicate with Confidence!”
