Kickboxing – Round Kicks
This week in Kickboxing, we focus on the most important and strongest strike in our arsenal: the round kick. This kick is widely regarded in combat sports as one of the most powerful and devastating strikes due to the sheer force and speed with which they can be thrown. Mechanics to develop a strong round kick are essential. We will focus on using our entire body and swinging our shin like a baseball bat in order to generate maximum force. The rear round kick, the lead leg switch kick, and learning how to throw these kicks for speed and balance will be the focus!
Muay Thai – Boxing
This week in Muay Thai, we will focus on the Sweet Science of Boxing! However, boxing in Muay Thai is very different than traditional boxing. We will examine some of the differences between the two, and how to better use our punching in Muay Thai to allow us to employ our other weapons successfully.
Kids – Conflict
“Conflict is a type of problem, and I do have to deal with some problems, but the ABCs here will give me a couple rules to follow to make sure I can always handle the problems I find myself in.” “This week is “A”. Anybody know what it stands for??” (Avoid, avoid danger) “Exactly! Avoid means stay away from. If I know something is dangerous or going to cause me a problem, should I go seeking that out?” (NO) “No! A lot of the time when we DO have problems or get hurt, it’s because we failed to see the DANGER of a situation. If we really have our eyes open, I’ll be able to solve a lot of problems before they even happen. If I stay completely away from the bully, am I going to have a problem? (NO) “But the bully isn’t the only type of problem or danger I might see in the world. What else should I try to avoid and why? (Busy Street, Construction Site, Vacant lot, Rushing River, School Bully, Talking with a stranger) “Good examples. I’m glad you guys have things you already know to look out for and stay away from. Stay alert, and keep an eye out for situations where you could avoid conflict” “So, in order to stay safe, we need to stay alert, and avoid the obviously dangerous situations.”

Thoughts – Motivation VS Dedication
It’s important to know the difference between motivation and dedication. Motivation is great, but it’s a very temporary feeling. Everyone, at some point in their lives is motivated to do something. All of you, if you are newer, are probably motivated right now to be here. Dedication, on the other hand, is different. It is a deep-seated promise we silently make to ourselves. It’s a promise that sometimes is hard to keep, but that is why people who are successful are always dedicated. To be dedicated means to keep pursuing your goal even when you are no longer motivated. The days when you’re tired, or it’s raining out, and the last thing you want to do is come in here and train, that is where dedication separates itself from motivation. I challenge everyone in here to make that promise to yourself, and to live a healthier and more rewarding life because of it.
