Fundamentals – Back Attacks

  • Dragging Rear Naked Choke – Every situation doesn’t call for a violent response. Some times, getting control of the individual is all it takes and utilizing the dragging rear naked is a great way to do that. Once you’ve gotten them down, you’ll be able to negotiate with them without hurting them if you don’t have to.
  • Back Attack – Having back control is arguably one of the top two positions to be in while defending yourself. You are able to submit your opponent but it is difficult for them to do much of anything to you if your control is effective. Once you’ve gotten them under control, rear naked chokes and arm bars should be there.

Intermediate – Side Control Attacks

  • Mid-Level Double-Leg with Punch Setup – Setting up your takedowns is important for sport and for self-defense. We’ll be looking at self defense for this week’s standup portion and will be including some concepts and punch combinations that will help you set up the mid-level double-leg takedown. You’ll find it much easier to take someone down if you get them to defend your punches first.
  • Attacking Side Conrol – Side control is an amazing position to work submissions from. Once you’re able to control your partner in this position, it’s easier to consider submitting them. This week Professor Eliot shows us how to do a walk around armbar and a Kimura from side control. Happy hunting!!

Kickboxing – Knees

Knees are a great mid-range and short-range weapon in kickboxing that can be thrown to the body or the head of your opponent. Based on the openings, there are several different types of knees that you should know how to throw, which include: long knees, round knees, and skip knees. We will look at all three types this week and learn how to throw them for maximum power and effectiveness!

Fitness Challenge: Lunges and Plank-to-Push-Up

Muay Thai – Creating Angles

Standing in the pocket and exchanging is definitely fun and exciting to watch, but how about hitting your opponent without getting hit? This week we will look at a few different ways to “step off” the tracks and create angles of attack that give us the advantage over our opponent. If we can create an angle, we put the odds of winning the exchange in our favor, which helps us win the fight!
**Advanced classes and sparring classes will be still focused on smoker preparation. If you are planning on doing the smoker on Aug 29th, you are REQUIRED to be attend these classes and get your training in!

Kids – Balance Over Emotion

This week we’re talking about how to switch our focus away from what is upsetting us. Using the mindfulness technique of balance over emotion, we can let our anger or frustration subside, while we focus on something else.

BJJ

  • Little Tigers – Little Tigers will be working on guard passing, using a game called Crazy Legs.
  • Tigers – Tigers are looking at using the fan sweep to set up a front choke. They will also practice defending the rear choke.
  • Advanced Tigers – The advanced group will focus on taking the back from guard, as well as a headlock escape.

Muay Thai

It’s knee week in kids’ Muay Thai. We’ll look at different types of knee strikes, and how to combine them with punches.
