Martial Arts for Kids in Longmont

Easton Longmont runs two kids programs, and between them they take children from four through thirteen. Parents arrive here for all sorts of reasons — a child who needs an outlet, a child who is being pushed around at school, a child who has tried three sports and stuck with none — and the room is built to take all of them. You do not need to know anything about martial arts to start, and neither does your child.

The coach who sets the Tigers curriculum for every Easton academy teaches at Longmont. Jordan Shipman is Easton's Kids Jiu Jitsu Program Director — a black belt who built the syllabus and the competition teams the other academies run. The kids program here is Tyra Pritt's: a purple belt who won Master Worlds as a blue belt and American Nationals at both blue and purple, and who names coaching kids first when asked what she is known for. She leads it alongside River Mayfield, who runs the academy and started here as a kids assistant coach, and Toby Brunson.

Age Groups

Which Age Group Is My Child?

Kids train with kids their own age and stage. A coach places your child on their first day — you do not have to work it out in advance.

Ages 4–6

Little Tigers

Where a four-year-old starts. Foundational movement, coordination, and a class shaped around a short attention span — structure they can actually hold, and enough play that they want to come back. This band is Jiu Jitsu; striking starts at seven.

Ages 7–13

Tigers

Real technique and real progression, and from seven both programs at Easton Longmont are open. Kids at this age can train Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, or both — they are on the same mats, with the same coaches and the same expectations.

Your First Class

The Day You Walk In

The three things parents actually ask at Easton Longmont before they book.

01

What drop-off actually looks like

Come a few minutes early. Somebody has your child's name before you arrive — a coach meets them at the edge of the mat, walks them on, and introduces them to the students they will be working with. A loaner Gi or loaner gloves are already at the desk, so there is nothing to buy first.

02

Can I stay and watch?

Yes, and on a first day we would rather you did. You are welcome at the edge of the mat for the whole class. You are also not expected to stay — plenty of parents drop off, and plenty stay every week for years.

03

What if my child is shy?

Most first-timers are. The opening minutes go on your child rather than on the curriculum, and they are paired with a student who already knows that looking after your partner is the job. Nobody spars on day one, and nobody is made to do anything they are not ready for.
