Easton BJJ supports Brazilian Social Project

If you are interested in donating please speak with Amal or Mike ASAP. We are looking to raise $500.

UFC fighter Brendan Schaub is heading down to Rio de Jeneiro for the biggest fight of his career against Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira.  It is the first UFC event to take place in Brazil and it will sure be a battle for Schaub to fight Nogueira on his home turf.  Everyone at Easton is excited to see Brendan take it to Nogueira on Saturday August, 27th.  I know I am pulling for a quick knockout, which should be a challenge considering the strength of Nogueira’s chin, but if anyone has the knockout power, it is definitely our very own Brendan Schaub.

Brendan and Amal have other ideas while they are down there as well.  On their last visit to Brazil, the two met up with one of Rio’s social projects, Tropa Thai. This particular organization run’s a large Martial arts program for kids from a community that comes from poverty.  The Favela (term for a shanty town in Brazil) is called Tijuquinha and is located right outside Rio’s city limits.

Amal and Brendan are bringing down a large stock of thai equipment and kimonos to help out this social project. Due to the amount of kids involved, it will be difficult to supply equipment for all of them.  So the Easton team is asking if anyone can help donate some money to this awesome cause, it would be much appreciated and not forgotten.

Think of it this way, you will be helping out the founding country of this sport. The sport that we have all let into our lives for the better. I know for myself and for Amal we would not be where we are today without it. We all came into it for different reasons, but there is no doubt that all our paths have brought us together on the mat.  There is no family like a bjj one. We sweat, bleed, and suffer together, but at the end of the day there is nothing more gratifying than a good training session with peers. Except maybe giving back….
