Fundamentals – undefined

  • Headlock Defense – The head lock is one of the most common self defense situations to find yourself in. Luckily, there are easy ways to keep yourself safe, and move to a dominant position. Lear how to defend the standing head lock when your partner is trying to punch you.
  • Headlock Escapes on the Ground – We touched on these techniques a few weeks ago, but this week we will go straight to the ground and look at using the pendulum, hooking the leg to push, then pull, hooking the head and turning to all fours in order to defend the headlock on the ground. Don’t despair; the above video will make this easy to understand.


  • Drills: Anaconda guard sweep, bull-fighter pass, frame escape
  • Takedown: Side clinch
  • Ground: Attacking knee on belly

Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session. Please watch the video below for a detailed look at these drills. On the ground, we are learning how to attack from the top of knee on belly using a series of chokes.

Kickboxing – Elbows

This week in kickboxing, we will go over the short-range weapon in the elbow. The elbow can be used to “cut” or “spear” the opponent, depending on how you throw it. We will look at proper elbow technique and then how to properly set our elbows up and cover distance from punch range to elbow range.

Muay Thai – Zone 1 Offense: Elbows, Knees, and Clinch Entries

This week in Muay Thai, we will focus on on Zone 1 weapons: elbows and knees. We will look at how to transition from Zone 2 into Zone 1 safely with strikes, and how to combine elbows and knees on the inside. We will also continue to study the Thai Long Guard and how we can use it to get into Zone 1 while defending against punches.



It is very important to make sure that we are all taking our cleanliness seriously. Make sure you are showering after training and washing and cleaning your equipment: gis, boxing gloves, shin pads etc. Not only is personal hygiene important for our health and the health of those around us, but it is also a matter of being considerate. Do not be the person that no one wants to train with.
