RING OF FIRE 41: BRAGGING RIGHTS
Check out Toner’s webpage: THUNDER
Prepare yourselves, Thundermaniacs. I finally got a fight. I have, begrudgingly, been on a hiatus since my last fight on The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale in December. For a variety of reasons, I just haven’t been able to get a fight. However, Ring of Fire promoter Sven Bean came through for me, and set me up on his August 20th card here in Broomfield, CO.
My opponent is Gilbert “JR” Sims, a Golden Gloves boxer from Las Vegas. Sims doesn’t have an outstanding MMA record, but the kid is tough as hell. He took one of his first MMA fights on the Bodog fight show against Brad Pickett, who is, personally, one of my favorite fighters to watch. Stylistically, it should be a fun/exciting fight. Taking his boxing accolades into consideration, I doubt Sims will try to turn the fight into a hugfest.
I’m pumped to be fighting in Ring of Fire again. It feels like a homecoming of sorts; fighting less than a mile away from my house, in front of a crew of my friends and family, and on the card with a bunch of my teammates and friends (Jarred Mercado, Brandon Thatch, and Vinnie Lopez are fighting, as well) — feels just like the good old days (throw Brendan Schaub, Eliot Marshall, Shane Carwin, and Duane Ludwig on there and you have an old school Ring of Fire card).
So there it is. August 20th at the 1stBank Center. Let’s do this.
Hey fight fans don’t forget to purchase your tickets at the Boulder or Denver Easton BJJ locations before fight night!
