Professor John Combs Wins ADCC Trials

On February 9th, Professor John Combs of Easton Training Center Boulder won the West Coast ADCC Trials and booked a ticket to the ADCC Championship!

The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) hosts the Submission Wrestling Word Championship every two years. The tournament is the most prestigious no-gi grappling championship in the world. Divisions at the championship are limited to 16 participants, and there are only 3 ways to qualify:

1. The previous year’s division winners return to defend their title.
2. A few prestigious athletes from around the world receive a personal invitation from the organizers.
3. The winners of trial events, held in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America also receive invitations to the championship.

The North American West Coast Trials took place on February 9th, with many top grapplers attending. Professor Combs has already been making a name for himself competing around the world and showcasing his brutal “Combatine” choke. He participated in the under 77 kg division, which featured a whopping 112 competitors! But not one of them could top Combs, who won the entire division.

Not only did Combs win the 112-man bracket, he submitted all but one of his opponents! It was an utterly dominant performance.

On to the World Championship!

With his first place finish at trials, Combs has secured his spot in the ADCC World Championship and cemented his reputation as one of the top grapplers in the world. The championship is the biggest event of the year in nogi grappling, and qualifying for it is a tremendous accomplishment.

The 2019 ADCC World Championship will take place in Anaheim, CA on September 28th – 29th. All of Easton will be cheering for Professor Combs!
