Move of the Week for 3/7

Amal Easton

Move of the Week for 3/7

Time to spend some time with Professor Amal on the mat from the comfort of your couch or cubicle. This week we have a double leg takedown, a great sweep and choke combo, and a particularly fluid armbar plus a kimura.

Fundamentals Stand-up & Intermediate Stand-up

Double Leg Mid-Level Takedown. For the Intermediate students, include striking. Getting the distance right will make this technique much more effective.

Fundamentals Ground

Side Sweep and Front Choke from Guard. Remember, God is in the details. It’s the little things that make a black-belt a black-belt. When executing the choke, make sure the second hand goes UNDER the first. When performing the sweep, make sure your left foot stays stiff, like a little hook. Notice how on the 3rd variation, the left leg controls both the opponents right arm and right leg.

Intermediate Ground

Walk Around Arm Bar. A key detail for an effective arm bar is locking the arm to your chest at the wrist. If he’s fighting to keep his arm bent, lock it, then use your back muscles to straighten it. If he can resist your whole upper body strength, you may be in the wrong weight class.

And here’s part 2!
