Fundamentals – Escaping Side Control

  • Foot Sweeps – Getting an opponent to the ground is all about disrupting their balance. This week we’ll look at one of the most effective ways to do just that, by messing with our partners footwork.
  • Frame Escape – Escaping Side Control is a difficult prospect. Your partner has already gotten around your legs, and now you’re supporting all their weight on your chest. This week we’ll look at how to relieve that weight and replace our Guard.

Intermediate – Maintaining Side Control

  • Low Back Clinch + Tai Otoshi – Having Double Unders is one of the most powerful positions from the feet. You have total control over you partner’s shoulders and hips. This week we’ll look at how to go directly to our partner’s back and how to put them on the mat if they defend.
  • Advancing to Mount – This week we’ll look at how to hold our Side Control position, and once we have it stabilized, how to advance into Mount.

Kickboxing – Push Kicks

Push kicks, or front kicks, are a great offensive and defensive weapon. The push kick can be used to off balance our opponent so we can follow up with other attacks. On defense, we use it to keep space between us and our opponent. A successful front kick generates power from the hips and the full extension of your leg. Use your hips this week to get maximum power!

Muay Thai – Kick Defense

Round kicks are the most powerful weapon in Thai boxing. This week we look at protecting ourselves against a strong round kick. There are multiple ways to defend, but we will focus on: the forearm block, the high check, and catching the round kick. Once we defend the kick, we can counter and make our opponent pay for the kick!

Kids – Conflict Avoidance

So far we’ve covered Avoidance, Be Calm and Breathe, and Confidence. This week is ‘D’ for Defend. Sometimes, no matter what you do, the other person wants to physically harm you. If anybody ever tries to physically harm you, that is your cue to use your Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai training to defend yourself.


  • Little Tigers – Being able to take an opponent down is the first thing we need to learn if we get into a fight, that way we can begin to use our BJJ.
  • Tigers – This week we’ll study how to advance form Side Control to the Mount.
  • Advanced Tigers – We’ll continue sequencing techniques together, looking at how to pass our partner’s guard, advance to mount, and finish.

Muay Thai

Our legs are the strongest part of our body, so they create the most damaging strikes. This week we’ll look at Round and Teep kicks, utilizing these powerful techniques.


  • Women’s clases are going strong at your favorite ETC! Make sure you are spreading the word so that your friends, daughters, and sisters are all aware that there is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class made just for them!
  • Please wear your ranked Muay Thai shirts to classes. If you forget yours, kindly ask the front desk staff to borrow one.
    Ranked shirts are required for classes!


If belief can move a mountain…what can it do for you? Just like the song says, don’t ever stop believing! No matter what sorts of road blocks appear, keep on trucking until you get to that next short term goal en route to the long term ones! Success is a battle of attrition.
