Fundamentals – Headlock Defense
- Headlock Escapes on the Ground – We touched on these techniques a few weeks ago, but this week we will go straight to the ground and look at using the pendulum, hooking the leg to push, then pull, hooking the head and turning to all fours in order to defend the headlock on the ground. Don’t despair; the above video will make this easy to understand.
Intermediate –
- Single-Leg Takedown – The single leg is an indispensable takedown for BJJ. This week we will look at shooting a mid-level single leg.
- Omoplata – “The omoplata is the shizzle to my nizzle, my bread and butter, my stars and my moon. Get this one down, because it is important.” – Professor James
Kickboxing – Elbows
This week in kickboxing, we will go over the short-range weapon in the elbow. The elbow can be used to “cut” or “speer” the opponent, depending on how you throw it. We will look at proper elbow technique and then how to properly set our elbows up and cover distance from punch range to elbow range.
Muay Thai – Boxing
We will spend our week focusing just on the “Sweet Science.” Boxing drills, specifically related to Muay Thai, which will ultimately help our other Thai Boxing tools become more successful. Learning how to box with good balance and defense is the foundation for our sport, so we will be getting in lots of quality drills this week in class on that!

On the Importance of Taking Action
“Take action. Every story you’ve ever been connected with, every leader you have ever admired, every puny little thing that you have ever accomplished is the result of taking action. You have a choice: you can either be a passive victim of circumstance, or the active hero of your own life.” – Bradley Whitford
