OCTOBER ARVADA NEWSLETTER
We are almost through October and we have had a busy month and a half. Read about everything we’ve done below!
September Ninja Night
We had an amazing turn out for our Ninja Night on September 8th! Over 50 kids, members and non-members, came out to enjoy this fun even. Our kids coaches and assistants led the students in games of Ultimate Dodgeball, which involves a lot of barriers for hiding and sneak attacks, and NERF battles. The night ended with pizza and watching a movie. We’re glad the students had a fun time and hope their parents enjoyed a few hours free of kids!
John Combs Seminar
On September 8th, we hosted a seminar with Professor John Combs. Training and teaching out of our Boulder location, Professor John is well known for his guillotine game and we were lucky enough to have him come out and teach us about how to improve our guillotine attacks and defenses. He did a fantastic job of teaching and everyone walked away from the seminar with knowledge of how to improve their guillotine choke.
Buddy Month Winners
Thank you for everyone who participated in the September Buddy Month contest! Our students brought in over 30 friends to try out classes! Our winners were Chris Wagner for Kickboxing/Muay Thai, Levi Romero for BJJ, and Stephanie Castro for our kids’ program. Congratulations to our winners! And if you have friends who are interested in trying out a class in the future, they are always welcome! The front desk can help you set them up with a free trial.
Staffing Changes
In September, we said goodbye to Coach Matt when he accepted the position of General Manager at our Easton-Boulder location. He will still be coaching our Friday evening classes through the end of 2018, so come check out those classes if you want to see him! Coach Matt has been a well-loved member of the Easton-Arvada school and while we are sad to see him go, we know he will be fantastic in Boulder and wish him the best!
Coach Max has taken over for Coach Matt and is teaching our kids, teens, and adult kickboxing and Muay Thai classes. Coach Max comes to us from Easton-Centennial and has been training there for 8 years. He trained in Idaho before coming to Centennial. He is an experienced instructor who has been teaching adults and children in BJJ and Kickboxing/Muay Thai for 8 years. Easton has been an important part of Max’s life and was influential and helping him reduce his weight from 300 pounds!
Tien’s fight
On Saturday, October 13th, one of our striking program’s shining stars, Tien Nguyen, stepped into the squared circle for a local Muay Thai promotion: 5280 Muay Thai for their 11th event. Tien had spent the month before in Thailand, training at the famed Petchrungruang gym, and arrived back to America just two days from his fight! Tien represented both ETC-Arvada and Easton Muay Thai amazingly as always, fighting a hard fought three round battle with a tough opponent. When the scores were read, Tien lost a close decision, while learning even more in the process. We are beyond proud of him, and can’t wait to see what the waters of competition hold for Tien next!
Tournament
Our Easton In-House Tournament was Saturday, October 13th and we had a great turnout from Arvada. We had both adults and children competing, with several people placing first in their divisions! Congratulations to everyone who competed, it takes a lot of courage!
