Fundamentals – undefined

  • Front bear hug over and under – This week we will focus on defending a bear hug from the front by
fighting for double underhooks and then moving to the side clinch
    position.
  • Maintain Mount + front chokes
This week we are focusing on how to attack from the top of the mount.
First, we must understand how to maintain the mount, and then we will
look at a basic cross choke.

Intermediate

  • Drills: Push/pull stance drill, russian drill, arm drag drill, post drill, and De la Riva to anaconda guard to 1 leg X-guard sweep
  • Takedown: Punch defense to side clinch
  • Ground: Armbar and triangle from the closed guard

Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session.
This week focus on setting up the russian tie, the push/pull wrestling
stance drill, the arm drag drill, defending punches with the side
clinch, and transitioning from DLR to anaconda guard to 1 leg X-guard.
Please watch the video below for a detailed look at these drills. On
the ground, we are studying how to attack the technical armbar from
the closed guard, and then how to transistion to the triangle choke
when our partner pulls their arm out of the armbar. Finish class with
positional training from the closed guard.

Kickboxing – Round Kicks

This week in Kickboxing, we focus on the most important and strongest strike in our arsenal: the round kick. This kick is widely regarded in combat sports as one of the most powerful and devastating strikes due to the sheer force and speed with which they can be thrown. Mechanics to develop a strong round kick are essential. We will focus on using our entire body and swinging our shin like a baseball bat in order to generate maximum force. The rear round kick, the lead leg switch kick, and learning how to throw these kicks for speed and balance will be the focus!

Muay Thai – Teeps and Push Kicks

This week in Muay Thai, we will be moving back out to “long range” and focusing on our longest weapon: the teep! We will look at it’s practical applications from offensive and defensive standpoints, and we will also explore various follow ups once we have established the teep. Our theme for this week is “controlling the centerline!”

The “Wall” and Getting Over it

Everybody, at some point in their workout program is going to hit the
“wall.” Whether that means you’re feeling burned out, or you aren’t
seeing the same rate of improvement, or you feel like you are
plateauing…whatever the case may be, you are going to hit that wall
at some point in your training. The trick is to be aware of it, and to
understand that it’s natural for everyone. Getting over the wall,
which all of you will do, is one of the most rewarding feelings you
can have, and this obviously is not only true for our training, but
also for our lives. Life is full of obstacles, and the most successful
people are the ones who keep moving forward and deal with setbacks in
stride. As far as our workouts are concerned, the way to get over it
is to stay consistent, and to remember that you can always ask any of
the instructors here for advice and guidance because getting over the
wall is something we have all personally experienced. Again, it’s just
necessary to understand that at some point all of us will hit the
wall, but what’s important, and what really defines us, is that we
have the indomitable spirit and the fortitude to get over it and forge
ahead.
