This summer, I tried something different for my kids — and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
I’m a mom of 9 year-old triplets, and this year was the first time since Kindergarten that I decided they wouldn’t attend their usual full-time summer camp at school. In previous years, they’d often complain about not enjoying the activities, or that their friends weren’t there. I started to feel like our time (and money) could be better spent somewhere they’d be more engaged and excited.
Of course, I knew this choice would mean less flexibility for me, but I was ready for the challenge. When I found out that Easton Lowry — where my kids already take regular Jiu Jitsu classes — offered two week-long summer camp options, I was thrilled. We picked the first mid-summer session, hoping the familiar environment, friends, and coaches would make for a great experience.
What I didn’t expect was how much they would love it.

Every single morning, they’d ask me if they were going back. They knew there was an option for half days or fewer days, so it was sweet to see their concern that they might not get the full experience. Their excitement was contagious.
At the end of the week, their “reviews” were glowing: they loved the dedicated Jiu Jitsu time, the quiet time to recharge, and the variety of other activities and games. And here’s the kicker — after spending five full days in a row from morning to afternoon, they acted like they could’ve kept going for weeks!
For me, as a parent, that says everything.
We’ve truly found a community at Easton where my kids feel safe, cared for, and yes — disciplined when needed. The coaches know how to challenge them, encourage them, and keep them engaged in a way that balances structure and fun. As a mom, that’s priceless.
I’ve seen how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has shaped my kids in everyday life even beyond camp. They’ve grown in discipline — learning to listen, follow through, and stay focused. They’ve built stronger relationships by working with partners and showing respect to their peers.
Maybe most importantly, they’re learning how to handle disappointment, whether it’s losing a round on the mat or not getting their way at home. These lessons don’t stay at the academy — they carry into school, friendships, and family life, making Jiu Jitsu a gift that extends far beyond the mat.
If you’re looking for a summer camp that keeps your kids active, connected, and learning valuable life skills, I can’t recommend the Easton BJJ Summer Camp enough. It’s not just peace of mind for parents — it’s an experience the kids will remember and want to come back to.
