Martial Arts Curriculum
Week of 5.21.2018 – 5.27.2018

BJJ

Fundamentals – undefined

  • Low-Level Double-Leg Takedown – The double leg is a fundamental takedown in BJJ, and a movement that every practitioner should understand. From a proper wrestling stance, we will focus on changing our level and shooting on our opponent’s legs.
  • Triangle Choke from Closed Guard – The triangle is a perfect move for self defense and sport jiu jitsu. It’s important for us to focus firstly on breaking our partners posture and making sure they can not land strikes on us. Secondly when we feel safe we will learn how to set up our triangle and avoid striking damage, and getting stacked on our neck by under hooking our partners leg.

Intermediate

  • Drills: Guard pull to anaconda guard sweep, smash pass to mount, knee slide to side control, side control to mount
  • Takedown: Guard pull
  • Ground: Mount Attacks

Remember, all intermediate classes start with a hard drilling session. Guard pull to anaconda guard sweep, smash pass to mount, knee slide to side control, side control to mount. Please watch the video below for a detailed look at these drills. On the ground, we are studying how to attack the mount using the a variety of chokes and armbars.

Kickboxing – Boxing

This week in Kickboxing L1, we will be focusing on the “Sweet Science!” We will examine the similarities and the differences between traditional boxing and boxing for Kickboxing/Muay Thai. Let’s work on getting a mean jab this week!

Muay Thai – Elbows, Zone 1 Weapons

This week in Muay Thai, we will focus on our short-range weapons: elbows. These can be some of the most effective strikes in the arsenal, but we have to learn how to get inside to use them first! We will explore different elbow techniques and then look at setting our elbows up to have a better chance of landing them!

The Importance of Self-Awareness

A discrepancy between how you think you are perceived by others and how you are actually viewed exists in most of us. It is important to be aware of this discrepancy–at least in the abstract. We should all strive to be more self-aware, and pay closer attention to how our actions may affect and influence others. In doing so, we can aim to be better people in the world.
