Fundamentals – Single Legs and Back Escapes

  • Single-Leg Takedown – This single leg takedown is one of our staple takedowns, and can be performed with many variations. This variation is one that is extremely effective for training in the room, competition, and real situations. That’s why we review it so often. If it takes 1,000 or more reps to master something…how many reps do you have left?
  • Escaping Back Control – Now that we spent some time learning to control and finish from the back, lets focus on escaping. There are two basic ways we escape the back…the “safe” side, and the “risky” side. This week, we’ll cover them both, so be sure and check it out!

Intermediate – Hip Throw and Maintaining Mount

  • Renzo Hip Throw – This hip throw takes advantage of your opponent’s forward momentum and utilizes it to throw them. The hip throw and variations of it are extremely important, so be sure and make it in this week.
  • Maintaining Mount – Time to hold your opponent down in one of the best positions there is. The mount can be the end of the line for the other person if you know what you’re doing. That’s why you have to come in to learn what details you need to know in order to keep them down, and or submit them! Don’t forget our order of events…Position, Control, Submission!

Kickboxing – Low Kicks

This week in KB 1, we look at attacking the legs of our opponent, using the outside low kick and the inside low kick. These two kicks are designed to attack the lead leg of our opponent and cause damage, which in turn with slow our opponent down, and opens up another level of our offense (head, body, legs). We will also look at the basic defense for low kicks, by “checking,” and how to counter and return properly.

Muay Thai – Dutch Drills for Speed and Power

This week in Intermediate and Mixed-Level Muay Thai, we are going to do a heavy amount of partner drills and Dutch Drills. Doing Dutch drills allows for us to improve our reaction time and defense of combinations coming at us, as well as working at speed and power when we throw the combinations. These drills are very important because they are the intermediate step between pad work and live sparring rounds. When we drill, you should be focused on your timing and speed on offense while throwing the combination, then working on staying staff as soon as you finish throwing. Focus on exploding into these combinations and throwing full speed!
