BJJ

Fundamentals – Guillotine

  • Standing Guillotine Defense And Offense – We’ll be working on the guillotine choke from a standing position, setting it up on either side, and learning how to safely escape.
  • Guillotine From Bottom Of Closed Guard – Using some of the same components that we see in the standing guillotine, we’re going to look at setting it up from the bottom of guard. The key here is posture–make sure you’re scooting your hips back so they are behind your shoulders and you are leaning forward.

Intermediate –

  • Sprawling – Knowing how and when to sprawl is going to be your most valuable defense against attempted takedowns. An effective sprawl will save you points in a match, and help you avoid getting into a bad position.
  • Frame and Pummel from Half-Guard – Working from the bottom of half-guard, we’re going to look at a couple of ways to get into a more dominant position. First, we’ll practice setting up a good frame, and using it to replace the guard. Then we’ll look at the pummel. Depending on how your partner reacts, you can use the pummel to take the back, set up a sweep, or replace guard.

Kickboxing – Round Kicks

Round Kicks are one of the most fundamentally important, and difficult techniques in kickboxing to master! These kicks require the entire body to be engaged in order to throw with maximum power and force. Think of swinging a baseball bat, with your shin being the actual bat. You must turn your hips and shoulders before you swing the bat to generate power! Focus on quality reps this week.

Muay Thai – Clinch and Tourney Prep

Intermediate classes will focus on basic clinch posture, positioning, entries, offense, defense, and sweeps. Make sure to stretch your necks this week! Advanced classes will be continuing tournament preparations. Be prepared to work hard in this class and condition the body for the fight!

Kids – No Secrets and Appropriate Touch

We’ll continue to talk more about why it is important not to keep secrets from our parents. This week we’ll also add in a discussion on appropriate touching, and what to do when someone makes us feel uncomfortable.

BJJ

  • Little Tigers – Now that we’ve practiced punching combinations, we’ll be learning another fundamental Muay Thai technique. We’ll practice the horizontal elbow from both sides.
  • Tigers – This month the Tigers class will be looking at the back sweep, the knee-to-elbow mount escape, and the front choke.
  • Advanced Tigers – Advanced Tigers will be working on the same techniques as the regular Tigers class, and also adding in the arm drag to double-leg takedown, the Pendy sweep, and an armbar from the top of mount.

Muay Thai

It’s all about the kicks this month. We’re going to work on round kicks as well as front kicks (also called teep or push kicks). For each technique, we’ll break the kick down into steps, making sure everyone has the proper placement, rotation, and balance.

Announcements

  • Congrats to all of the team members that were out at the Revgear tournament this past weekend to compete and or show support for the other team mates that were out there on the mats! ETC really competed well and we were able to bring home even more hardware than usual. This is a testament to all of your hard work and consistency. Keep it up, there are more tournaments right around the corner!

Thoughts

We have a responsibility to do kind things for each other…not because it will bring us some sort of recognition or fame, but because we just need to be in the mind frame of thinking of our fellow man and doing acts of kindness.
“Give without asking for anything in return, not even a “thank you.” That is unconditional kindness; everything else is ego.” ~Timber Hawkeye
