We know starting anything new can be intimidating.
Here’s some advice to help you feel comfortable on your first visit!
What should I wear?
Kickboxing: T-shirt or tank top and shorts or pants that allow a full range of motion. Bare feet.
Jiu Jitsu: We will provide you with a gi to wear in your first class. Some people opt to wear a shirt and/or athletic leggings under the gi, but these are not required. Bare feet.
What should I bring?
You’ll probably get thirsty during your workout, so please bring your water bottle! You’ll also need to bring a photo ID with you to your first class.
What should my child wear?
Jiu Jitsu: We’ll set your child up with a gi to wear in class. Some kids prefer to wear a shirt under the gi top, so it’s a good idea to have one on hand.
Muay Thai: Your child should wear shorts and a t-shirt for class. We will provide them with gloves to borrow for their first visit.
What else should we bring?
In an effort to be environmentally friendly, please bring your child a water bottle for class. They can get very thirsty during all of our awesome activities! Please also remember to bring your ID.
What if I’m a total beginner?
Don’t worry! We see beginners every day, and will schedule you for a class that is appropriate for your level of experience. Our adult classes have students of all levels of fitness and all ages–from teenagers to grandparents.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! Starting something new is always easier with a friend, and we love new faces! Just give us a heads up when you confirm your appointment.
What if I don’t have gear?
For your very first class, we’ll set you up with everything you need, at no charge!
After that, we have rentals available, and a full pro shop where you can purchase your own gear.
Is it safe?
Safety is one of our top priorities, and we believe it is crucial to cultivate an environment where all students feel safe training. Our instructors emphasize good form and good control in every class. We carefully design our beginner curriculum so you won’t encounter anything too extreme on day one.
What should I expect?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:
Before your first Fundamentals class, you’ll have an orientation with one of our instructors. They’ll familiarize you with some of the most important Jiu Jitsu movements. Then you’ll hop into class, and learn the technique of the week, drilling with a partner.
Get ready for a fun, fast-paced workout. You’ll be punching and kicking a heavy bag, learning basic combinations interspersed with calisthenic movements.
Your child will enjoy a class filled with drill-based games and top-notch technique. Our friendly, energetic kids’ instructors will get your child acquainted with the class structure. They’ll be with other kids who are similar in age and experience. Larger classes always have multiple instructors to ensure that each child gets enough individual attention.
