CrossFit Open 2016

CrossFit Open 2016

In CrossFit boxes, you’ll often hear the sport described using the phrase “constantly varied functional movements at high intensity.” It’s quite a mouthful, but CrossFit’s very nature makes it difficult to pin down in a single sentence. The workouts (or WODs) are designed to get people fit in every sense of the word, increasing their strength, endurance, flexibility, and explosive power. From Olympic lifts to kettle bell swings, muscle-ups to double-unders, every movement targets a specific physical skill set. And as with the any cultivation of physical skill, there’s plenty of room for competition.
The CrossFit Open is the first level of competitive CrossFit. Every year, over the course of five weeks, five standardized WODs are released through CrossFit corporate. Anyone is welcome to participate, and submit their scores for the week’s workout. In 2015 over 272,000 people all over the world competed in the Open. When the five-week competition draws to a close, competitors with the highest scores are announced, and these athletes will be eligible for Regionals. The top athletes from Regionals continue on to the CrossFit Games in July.
This year the Open began on February 25th. CrossFit ETB is hosting a team workout every Saturday at 9:00 AM, where participating athletes will complete the assigned WOD in heats. Our athletes have been split up into four separate teams within the gym, and teams will compete to accumulate the most points over the course of the Open.
The CrossFit ETB Open is sponsored by Katz Chiropractic and Colorado Nutrition. Colorado Nutrition will be at the final Open workout on 3/26 with samples of nutritional supplements and their Inbody 230 machine, which analyzes body composition.
