Team Easton Dominates at Local and National Tournaments
Easton competitors take top honors in tournaments, including one teen who placed third at NAGA West Coast Championships in Las Vegas.
Team Easton placed FIRST at the 2010 Colorado Open on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Denver with 122 points — 63 points more than the second place team. Congratulations to everyone who competed and keep up the good work! Thank you for representing Easton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with class and sportsmanship. For full results, click here.
Also, a BIG congratulations to Denver student Damon Martinez who placed third in gi and no-gi at the NAGA West Coast Championships in Las Vegas on Sept. 11. Here’s what his father, Marc Martinez, had to say about his son’s tough competition and winning attitude:
“Damon has been training at the Denver academy since the middle of December 2009. According to the classifications by tournament sponsors (based on length of training) Damon is still classified as a beginner/intermediate competitor. He has fought at this level and has won numerous championship swords, trophies and medals. On our way to weigh-ins in Las Vegas, Damon decided he wanted to challenge himself and make the jump to the expert division. In talking with these expert competitors and their parents, we found that each of them have been training for approximately three years. They were from the Ralph Gracie Academy in California, Level 5, Team Mica, Relson Gracie Academies and others. Damon said he wanted to fight the best, and he did and he did it well. He placed third in no-gi and third in gi. His only losses came from the same kid twice — once by two points and the other by four points. That same kid submitted all of his other oponents. He would have dominated the intermediate division, but I think he is realized it was not about winning, but the willingness to learn and to grow. I am extremely proud of him and Team Easton should be, too. He represented your academy well with sportsmanship and respect. A big thank you to Amal Easton, Coach Stople, Professors J.R. and Larry, and Coaches Andrew, Mary and Jason for all you do for my son.”
