10.6.2014 – 10.12.2014

BJJ

Fundamentals – Defending Punches

  • Closing the Distance – There are 2 places to be safe in a fight: too close, or too far. This week we’ll study how to go from too far to too close, so we can take our partner down, and begin utilizing our BJJ.
  • Punch Defense – In sport Jiu Jitsu, the bottom of Closed Guard is a great position. However, in a fight, being on the pavement when your opponent can reign down punches is a bad place to be. This week we’ll look at how to defend punches from the bottom of Closed Guard, and hwo to revers the position.

Intermediate – Side Control

  • Tai Otoshi – Being able to disrupt your partner’s footwork is crucial to taking your partner to the mat. This week we’ll study how to mess with their foot placement, knocking them off balance.
  • Progressing to Mount – Side Control is a great position, but Mount is even better. This week we’ll continue to look at, not only how to maintain Side Control, but how to progress into Mount without allowing our partner to regain their Guard position.

Kickboxing – Knees

The knee in kickboxing is a strong, mid-range and short-rang tool. The mechanics of the knee are very similar to the push kick we focused on last week, just a different point of contact. This week we will look at the straight knee as well as how to throw proper skip knees.

Fitness Challenge: Push Ups

Muay Thai – Push Kicks

Push kicks, or front kicks, are a great offensive and defensive tool. They can be used to disrupts an opponent’s rhythm or to create space for a follow up attack. We will focus on push kick attacks, defensive push kicks, and how to defend against the front kick.

Kids – ABC’s of Conflict Avoidance

When confronted, the last thing we want is a physical altercation. Usually all parties involved, even the winner, end up with a few injuries. However, if we’ve done everything we can to mitigate the situation, and the other party still wants to get physical, we have to use our self defense knowledge to protect ourselves.

BJJ

  • Little Tigers – This week we’ll be playing Flip the turtle and Tackle the Giant, working on taking our partner from their feet, all the way to the mat.
  • Tigers – This week we’ll be studying how to move form Side Control to the Mount, and how to finish once we’ve stabilized the Mount position.
  • Advanced Tigers – This week we continue with our passing, progressing, and finishing sequence. We’ll start in the Closed Guard, and finish with an armbar form Mount.

Muay Thai

This week we’ll be working on kicks again. Remember, kicks can be used both offensively and defensively.
