Muay Thai – Clinch

Fundamentals

Knees form the Clinch – The clinch is one of the most dominant positions in Muay Thai.  If done properly, you control all of your partner’s movements and they can’t even hit you.  Mix in the most devastating weapon you have – you’re knees – and it could be lights out for your partner.  Check out the sort of devastation this combo can cause.

Intermediate

Advanced Clinch Work – We will be continuing our study of the Clinch, or Plum, developing control and looking at some creative tactics for attacking our partners.

BJJ – Attacking

Fundamentals

  • Stop Hands to Lower Back Clench Takedown – Every wonder what to do when somebody puts their hands up like their ready to fight?  Well, Stop Hands are the answer.  Learn how to neutralize an aggressive opponent, and take them to the ground where you can utilize your BJJ.  This is one of the most important self defense techniques to learn.
  • Triple Attack From Side Control – Kimura, Americana, and Reverse Armlock – Side Control can be a tricky position.  Your partner has alot of room to move away from you, and if you don’t have good control, they’re going to replace their guard.  Learn how to finish from Side Control while maintaining good control over your partner.  If you don’t know who Rafael Lovato Jr. is, you better get on the interwebs and check him out.  He is world renowned for his kimuras, you can check out one of his highlights to see how he executes them.

Intermediate

  • Armbar, Triangle, Armbar from Bottom of Guard – The bottom of Closed Guard is one of the most dynamic and aggressive positions in Jiu Jitsu, if you know what you’re doing.  You can sweep and attack from the position, and use a sweep to setup an attack, or vice versa.  This week we will be studying an incredibly effective transition series of attacks.  Starting from the basic Closed Guard Armbar, what happens if your partner frees the arm you’re attacking?  Simple! You change to a Triangle.  And what do you do if you’re partner stacks you in the triangle so you can’t finish?  Even Simpler! Switch back to an Armbar.  Check out Prof. Jaime Canuto showing off his transition skills at Worlds.

Black Belt

  • Escaping Knee on Belly – The dreaded Knee on Belly position.  It’s more than uncomfortable, it’s claustrophobic.  Learn how to get out of this not-so-fun position so you never get caught in it again.

Thoughts

There is power in your thoughts and in your words.  It has been said that the mind doesn’t know the difference between reality and what you think.  If this is true, then make sure you program your mind to think powerful, successful thoughts that will help propel you towards the finish line!  You are more in control than you think.  If you think and speak negatively about your goals…chances are you may not
ever reach them.  Conversely, if you think positively and speak positively about reaching your goals, you’re much more likely to succeed.  Be your own best cheerleader…everyone needs one!
