Fundamentals Stand up: Standing head lock escape,

Intermediate Stand up: Low back clinch (normal, go to back, outside trip/tai otoshi)

Intermediate Stand up: Low back clinch (normal, go to back, outside trip/tai otoshi)

Through the pummeling drill you learn that whomever has double underhooks has a strong advantage. This week we learn a few moves off  that dominate position. The first involves using the grip to pull your opponents hips close to you while you use your head to push their head past their hips. Remember that once you get your partner off balance like this that you are the only thing holding them up. Let them down easy! The second and third moves play well off of your partners response to attempting the first technique. You can either use the outside trip  if they base out, or go to their back if they push into you.
Intermediate Ground: Kimura, Americana, Straight armbar from side control

One thing you should have picked up in last weeks class covering maintaining side control is that you don’t insist on any one hold down. The same can be said for submissions. Good submissions come from good control. In order to develop good submissions, develop good control. All three of the side control top submissions we are covering this week play off of each other. As your partner defends one, they invariably give you another. Another characteristic of good submissions is that they take remarkably little energy to finish. Spend the time in class to learn what specifically makes them work and you will find that they all take very little effort to complete.
Every week, we post our jiu jitsu technique videos that demonstrate the maneuver and skills you would learn while studying jiu jitsu at Easton BJJ. If you would like to learn Brazilian jiu jitsu in Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Denver or any of our other locations, contact us today.
