Vellore Caballero’s Spectacular Victory at Kick Down 91!

On Friday, May 06, the Kick Down fight promotion held their 91st show at the Red Lion Hotel in Denver Colorado and Vellore Caballero, the head instructor and general manager of our Highlands Ranch school, had an amazing victory over Ricardo McKeney!

In a 145lb pro fight, Vellore Caballero and Ricardo McKeney had a brief, but intense fight. While McKeney came out strong, Vellore’s excellent jiu jitsu skills kept him safe from McKeney’s attempts to do a little ground ‘n pound. After being stood up by the ref, Vellore came hard with a barrage of blows that McKeney wasn’t able to protect himself from, and Vellore won with a serious knockout punch at 2:30 of round one! His win was so impressive, it won him the knockout of the night bonus!

Tips From the Pro!

Vellore Caballero was sponsored by Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, and used several of their supplements in preparation for the fight, as well as a very strict diet and intense training. Vellore was kind enough to write down his pre-fight training regimen and diet for the rest of us.

“Gary Connell ( of Max Muscle) put me on a diet that controlled the amount of calories I was taking in, as well as when I would eat, and over the course of 6 weeks, we were able to bring me down to 150 from 165. , while maintaining as much muscle as possible.  This was due to diligent follow up on Gary’s part.  He would see me once a week to measure my body fat, as well as to take other measurements to track my muscle gain/loss each week as well.  I was taking ARM, PRO BCAA, Whey Protein, and Extinguisher.  All of these products came from Max Muscle Sports Nutrition in Highlands Ranch and were integral to my training regimen. The ARM was for recovery, post work out.  It enabled me to feel fresh for the second and third workouts of the day.  The BCAA’s were used intermittently for muscle soreness, and the protein was taken to supplement my protein intake 2 to 3 times a day.  Extinguisher was my pre-workout supplement that really added that extra pump to my workouts!  It made it so that I felt strong and energized toward the end of some grueling workouts.

My diet was pretty plain.  I pretty much ate a lot of brown rice, oatmeal, chicken, spinach, broccoli, and salmon.  I was creative with Mrs. Dash on my food and sugar-free syrup in my oatmeal, but other than that, pretty plain.  I ate several small meals and snacks throughout the day, according to the plan that Gary from Max Muscle made for me.  I admit I cheated a little here and there, but the guidelines that had been set for me were clear and I did my best to stay on track.  I must have done something right because I was right on weight for the Pan Ams in March, and was able to carry everything forward for a super easy weight cut for my fight last Friday night.

Victory Through Dedication!

Vellore was recently promoted to brown belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu from Amal Easton, founder of Easton BJJ in Highlands Ranch/Littleton, and several other locations throughout Colorado. Vellore also recently took 3rd in the Pan Jiu Jitsu tournament.

This was an amazing victory for both Vellore, and we couldn’t be more proud of him! His dedication to his training, and determination to prepare properly truly paid off in the best way possible.
