A Day at Eliot Marshall’s UFC 103 Training Camp!!!

A day in the camp of Eliot Marshall as he prepares for his fight on September 19th!

Professor Eliot Marshall is hard at work, preparing for his fight at UFC 103 in Dallas Texas. Eliot will be taking on Jason Brilz, who last fought and beat Tim Boetsch at UFC 96. Brilz, with a record of 17-1-1, will be a tough challenge for Marshall, so his training has been 100% focused. Eliot and I just got back from a week of final preparartions at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque, NM. Most of his training camp has been here, at Easton BJJ, at Grudge fight with Coach Trevor “T” Whitman, wrestling with Coach Leister Bowling and fitting it all together with Coach Jackson and his team. Eliot’s conditioning regimine is designed by Dr. Shannon Sovndal. Many people have contributed to this camp, including Chuan Simms, Nate Marquardt, Brendan Schaub, Shane Carwin, Brian Stann, Kieth Jardine and Cody Donovan, among others. Coaches Winklejohn, Chris Lytrell, and a dozen others that I’m forgetting to mention.

A typical day of training camp:

The day starts out with a morning jog to get the metabolism going. Next it’s time to feed the machine, a little rest and then off to practice. Today we were at Jackson’s for some hard rounds of wrestling, followed by a few skills drills and a discussion with some friends and fellow Renzo Gracie teammates Rolls Gracie, Sapo, and Alex Psychoni.

A quick radio interview with Kiss 97 for a shout out to the “Burque”!

It’s now afternoon and time for physical conditioning at the gym, lifting, and a lot of cardio. After that, it is back to Colorado for some much needed rest and another “day at the office”!

In reality, Eliot’s entire life during a training cycle, consists of technical training, hard training, physical conditioning, eating (you need a lot of food when you work that hard, but at the same time you have to cut weight) and lots of time off your feet to rest and recover.

I hope this gives you some insight into what goes into just one of many, many days of preparation for MMA fighters. Below are some pictures from Eliot’s camp in NM and CO. Enjoy!

See you on the mat!
